It seems like working from home is increasing every year. It has grown so much, that many who step into it believe it's going to be simple. The truth is, not so much. However, I'm also not saying that it's difficult either. The truth is this: if you have a lot of work to do and on top of that calls to attend to and a lot of distractions around you, it will be hard to manage your time.
For starters, if you are a full time student, roommate, wife or mom, the distractions will end piling up one way or another. However, there is still hope. Here are some helpful tips that I would like to share with you that will make your work at home the dream life you’ve always wanted!
Tip one: Set that schedule and stick to it. Set your schedule in a time format. What does this mean? Well, let's say you want to wake up at a certain time, write it in your calendar schedule (paper or digital). It’s ok if it differs day to day, but the key point is to stick to it. Then write every work & personal obligation in each time slot for the day. Trust me, this will keep you accountable and make you stay on schedule. If you need to, put an alarm to keep track of time.
Tip two: If you are starting to get overwhelmed with all types of different distractions at home, then it's time for a change of scenery. Where to? A café is a good idea to head to, just take your headphones with you. Have a coffee or tea to set the vibe. Sounds lovely, don't you think? The library is also a great choice! Many of the people who visit the library are there to study or work, and this type of environment can be motivating. Personally, I've gone over to my parent's house while they are working in order to have the house all to myself! Along with their dogs Penny and Oliver, so I'm not so alone!
Tip three: Make sure to take those breaks! Not only is it good to take breaks to recharge, but it's also good to give those eyes a rest! Set a time in your schedule to take your breakfast, lunch, and breaks. It is super important. Make sure to stretch as well. As mentioned above, make sure to set alarms, so you don't go overboard or stray away from your schedule.
Hopefully, you can utilize these tips to help you thrive not only on the business aspect of your life but personally as well.
